Program Director
Melanie Roper
Melanie Roper (she/her) is a strengths-based, human centered leader who comes to PEPS from Neighborhood House where she most recently served as the Director of Prenatal-5 Services. Melanie has participated in both PEPS and Families of Color Seattle (FOCS) Groups and deeply values connection and community for new parents. As a young child, Melanie's family moved to the United States from the Philippines. She is inspired by her mother's experience learning a new language and culture (and learning to live with snow), all while raising three rambunctious mixed-race children in a time when few resources were available. Most of Melanie's career has been spent engaging with families from populations such as immigrants and refugees, people impacted by income disparity, as well as survivors of trauma. She is passionate about equity, doing her own work, and creating brave spaces for communities to come together. Melanie cares deeply about supporting people in connecting with their cultural roots, exploring intersectional identities, and elevating a diversity of parenting styles.Outside of PEPS: Melanie is a devoted sister, daughter, auntie and mama and a voracious reader, writer, and lover of podcasts. An ideal weekend is spent exploring West Seattle tide pools and adventuring on the ferry system with her partner and two children.
Education: Melanie holds a BA in English from Seattle Pacific University and a Masters in Social Work from Boise State University.
