Swarnima Aswinkumar

Swarnima Aswinkumar (she/her) is responsible for oversight and management of programming at PEPS, including Expectant Parents, Newborn, Second Time Around, Baby Peppers, Leader Engagement, Parents of Adolescents and Teens (PAT), and Affinity programming. She joined PEPS in 2019 and has managed the recruitment, training, and engagement of PEPS Group Leaders. She finds it especially rewarding to support parents and families by building competency and nurturing the strengths of Group Leaders who are looking to give back to the organization that made a difference in their lives.

She led the effort to establish the Learning Management System (LMS) platform to enable virtual leader training and increase accessibility. She worked on landscape analysis and curriculum development and led the pilots for the Working Moms affinity program. She is passionate about using innovative ways to support PEPS volunteers and increase the impact of PEPS programs.  She looks forward to driving equity-focused adoption of PEPS Affinity programs beyond the existing PEPS community.

Swarnima used to be a Materials Science and Engineering professional, and her journey in the non-profit Family and Community Engagement space started when her now high schooler joined elementary school in 2012. Since then, she has been actively involved with the Lake Washington Council PTSA and the Lake Washington School District Equity Team. Through several leadership positions, including Co-President at her son’s current high school, she has had the opportunity to introduce innovative projects as well as improve existing programs to better serve the student and parent community. In her previous role as Co-Vice President of Family and Community Engagement, their team received the 2018 Community Leadership Award from the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA). Swarnima has also received the WA State PTA Golden Acorn Award in 2021 in recognition of outstanding service and leadership in the school and community.

Swarnima has lived in the Seattle area for the last 14 years and calls it home.

Outside of PEPS: Swarnima enjoys traveling with her family and learning about new places and cultures. She likes hiking and enjoys listening to music.

Education: Swarnima holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
