Parenthood brings on many changes, joys, and challenges. Find support through a parent peer-support program for international families.
For more than 40 years, PEPS has built strong parent communities, fostering support and connection at every stage of parenting. Our Program for Parents of Adolescents and Teens (PAT) extends this mission to families navigating the unique challenges of raising teens. Parents who share commonalities and affinities often have an enhanced experience when navigating the journey of parenting together. As part of our commitment to racial equity, we are developing a specialized curriculum to better support international and immigrant families raising adolescents in a culture different from their own.
Last year, we conducted a landscape analysis through a community survey and three focus groups, gathering valuable insights. Through this process, key topics emerged as top concerns and priorities for international parents. We are now incorporating these themes into topic guides for our International PAT Families Affinity Pilot Groups, designed to complement our existing PAT curriculum.
We are excited to launch two free pilot groups in May and June and invite parents to participate. The shared affinity and common experiences can help build a sense of community and connection. Each International PAT Families Affinity Pilot Group will be led by a PEPS Group Leader trained in adolescent development and group facilitation and will run for a four-week period. Our peer-support model offers opportunities for parent support and discussion, topic information, and connections to relevant resources.
Participants will be asked to complete brief post-meeting surveys to provide feedback. Their input will be crucial in refining the curriculum and shaping the program's future.
