John Barnhardt

John worked tirelessly on the Board for more than four years. John's involvement with PEPS grew out of a lifelong commitment to education and peer-supported advocacy, along with a wonderful personal PEPS Group experience.

During his tenure, he made significant contributions in many areas. He served on four different committees and also took on numerous leadership positions including Treasurer and President. John always contributed well beyond what we asked of him. He mentored new board members, provided training and assisted with organizational challenges.

John always gave sage counsel and advice and asked questions that pushed us to make better decisions for PEPS. He has been a constant and invaluable resource and always made himself available in any way that helped to better the organization. Today, PEPS is a healthy organization because of the passion, support and tireless work ethic of John.

One of the many Board Members John worked with during his tenure had this to say about him:

“John’s leadership as president of the board helped transform it from a passive, advisory council to an active, involved board with purpose and motivation. His insight, intelligence, and sensitivity allowed everyone who spoke to understand that they brought value to the conversation while gently and creatively steering the conversation to action and resolution.

We are so grateful for all John has done for PEPS. He provided tremendous support to the Executive Director and the entire organization.

Outside of PEPS, John is the Director of Network Strategy at GCI, and Alaska-based telecommunications company. John is focused on developing specialized Internet and telecommunications services for education, healthcare and rural markets. He received his MBA from the University of Washington and his BS from Gonzaga University, and spent two years in the Peace Corps working on peer-based micro-lending programs. He lives with his wife and son in Ballard.
