PAT 4-Week Series Themes
PEPS offers a program for Parents of Adolescents and Teens (PAT) for caregivers of children aged 10 – 19 years. Participants can select between a four-week and nine-week program.
Below are samples of our 4-week series themes:
Getting Ready to Parent an Adolescent — This foundational 4-week series guides caregivers of middle and high school students (10 – 19 years) through conversations about the challenges and opportunities in parenting adolescents, how the pandemic has impacted adolescent development, and how to help kids cope with their stress while managing your own.
The Art and Science of Parenting a Middle Schooler — Starting middle school can be a major milestone in the lives of many children and their parents. This 4-week series guides parents and caregivers of middle schoolers (10 – 14 years) through an exploration of topics, including adolescent brain development, effective communication, and mental health to help adults gain the confidence they need to support their adolescent’s healthy development.
The Art and Science of Parenting a High Schooler — This 4-week series guides parents and caregivers of high schoolers (15 – 19 years) through an exploration of topics, including adolescent brain development, effective communication, and mental health to help adults gain the confidence they need to support their teen’s healthy development.
Communicating with your Adolescent — This foundational 4-week series guides caregivers of middle and high school students (10 – 19 years) through an examination of common communication barriers and offers caregivers the skills and tools to communicate more effectively with their adolescents. The series covers a range of topics, including how the pandemic has impacted communication skills and talking to adolescents about stress.
Adolescent Identity Development — Adolescence is a time when most young people begin to examine their identity, their place in the world, and who they want to become as adults. This 4-week series guides parents and caregivers of middle and high school students (10 – 19 years) through the common physical and social-emotional changes of adolescence and offers parents/caregivers tools to better understand and support their child as they navigate their exploration of identity. The series covers a range of topics, including gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic and racial identity development.
Helping Middle Schoolers Cope — This 4-week series supports parents and caregivers of middle schoolers (10 – 14 years) to navigate the challenges of the world around them, including the online world, the social world, relationships and sex, substance abuse, and more.
Helping High Schoolers Cope — This 4-week series supports parents and caregivers of high schoolers (15 – 19 years) navigate the challenges of the world around them, including the online world, the social world, relationships and sex, substance use, and more.
