At PEPS, we have continuously heard from parents caring for children with developmental challenges that they would appreciate and benefit from connecting with other families who share this identity. In the past, we partnered with Wonderland Child and Family Services to introduce a pilot program for families caring for children with developmental delays and disabilities. The Little Wonders program is a free 8-week pilot program developed specifically for local parents and caregivers caring for young children with developmental delays and disabilities. This online peer-support series has been designed to assist parents in finding support and resources, and building community. Each week, there will be a discussion topic facilitated by a group facilitator trained in inclusive facilitation, along with time for socializing and connection.

Program Details

Who: This series is open to solo parents and caregivers, couples, and co-parents caring for children with developmental delays and disabilities. It is open to families living in our service region with kids aged 0-3 years old. Up to 7 families will participate in the program and children are welcome to attend.

What: This pilot peer-support program will be offered as an 8-week series, with no cost to registrants, and will meet virtually.

Discussions will take place on WhatsApp through text and voice messaging, a group chat, and video calls. The PEPS curriculum has been reviewed and modified for this affinity program. Some weeks will include a guest speaker offering professional expertise, resources, techniques, and tools.

Sample discussion topics include:

• Feeding and Mealtimes
• Sleep
• Self-care
• Relationships

Discussions prompts will be shared weekly, with participants responding at their convenience. The weekly meeting time over WhatsApp video will be determined by the Group Leader and participants.

Where: In the comfort of your own home! This program is offered virtually. Registered participants will convene each week over WhatsApp.
