Fall Appeal 2019_matching

We know that program fees are preventing some families from signing up for a PEPS group and getting the support they need. Your feedback helped us implement Flexible Pricing, allowing parents to select the program fee that works best with their family. Please consider making a gift by December 31, 2019 to help another parent find connection and community.

ShaCara's story

I was 8 months pregnant when I found out I didn’t have health insurance. I had just moved from Boston to Seattle for my husband’s new job – but then we unexpectedly learned that we had to wait 90 days for his insurance to kick in. Suddenly, I was about to owe thousands of dollars in medical bills for my daughter’s birth. I couldn’t justify extra expenses. But I knew I had to be in a PEPS group.

The “Seattle Freeze” is real and my husband was working long hours. Being literally across the country with no friends or family, I was concerned I could get post-partum depression. But I wasn’t sure I could afford to pay to join a PEPS Group.

On paper, we don’t qualify for financial assistance. Before this experience, I wouldn’t have asked for help. But I emailed PEPS and they said they were willing to work with any parent who needs it.

That’s one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a new parent: There’s nothing wrong with saying, “Can you help?” You’re supposed to ask for help.

PEPS saved the day. Being in a PEPS group gave me a place to go. PEPS provided a safe space to express challenges and wins. It gave me space to talk about my emotions as a new mom. I’m a different person now, and it has been powerful to have a community that understands this.

I’m guessing you can relate, if you think back to being in your own PEPS group. You know how much it means. So, on behalf of PEPS, I’m writing you to ask: Can you help?

With your gift, another family in need can join a PEPS group (whatever their situation). PEPS now offers Flexible Pricing. That means families can choose the amount they pay or request full financial assistance. Your gift makes this possible. Let’s make it OK for parents to ask for help.

With gratitude,

ShaCara Telemaque
