Swarnima Aswinkumar, Leader Impact Specialist

Swarnima Aswinkumar

Swarnima has lived in the Seattle area for the last 10 years and has been actively involved with the Lake Washington Council PTSA and the Lake Washington School District Equity Team. At her son’s elementary school and then on the Council board, she has held several leadership positions and had the opportunity to introduce innovative projects as well as improve existing programs to better serve the student and parent community. In her previous role as Co-VP of Family and Community Engagement, their team received the 2018 Community Leadership Award from the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA).

After coming to USA for graduate studies, working in the Academia in Tokyo and then being a Mom to her now 7th grader, she feels her PTSA experience has been extremely gratifying. She looks forward to expanding her horizons and has joined PEPS to channel her passion for families, parents, and children and contribute towards a more connected and resilient society through providing support to new parents.

As Leader Impact Specialist at PEPS, she will focus on strengthening the Group Leader recruitment, training and engagement processes, growing meaningful new partnerships with diverse communities, and contribute towards nurturing the vision of inclusivity and equity.

Outside of PEPS: Swarnima enjoys traveling with her family and learning about new places and cultures. She likes hiking and enjoys listening to music. She continues her other volunteer efforts as board member on the Eastside Refugee and Immigrant Coalition and as Science Club chair at her son’s middle school.

Education: Swarnima holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from State University of New York at Stony Brook.
