Communications Specialist

PEPS is seeking a Communications Specialist for a 6-month contract assignment.

The Communications Specialist is a role supporting PEPS in the creation and execution of consistent communications and marketing across the organization. This contract position will assist in promoting PEPS programs and supporting the overall organizational messaging to fulfill the mission, vision, and strategic goals of PEPS. The Communications Specialist will prioritize racial equity in each of these tasks.

This is a part-time contract position in a remote work environment with a requirement to meet once a week virtually with the Communications and Marketing Director.

The PEPS mission is to connect parents to strengthen families and build community. Since 1983, the Program for Early Parent Support (PEPS), a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, has helped parents connect and grow as they begin their journey into parenthood. PEPS parent support programs educate, inform, and create community. Core Responsibilities

  • Draft, schedule, and publish content across multiple social media channels to engage the PEPS community and amplify the PEPS mission, programs, resources, and advocacy work.
  • Coordinate, build, and deploy engaging content across multiple monthly email newsletters and blog articles on the PEPS Highs and Lows blog.
  • Gather, develop, and produce compelling written content that share stories of PEPS impact.
  • Assist in the execution of printed and online communications and marketing activities, as needed.
  • Measure and evaluate results of content and make recommendations, as needed.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent direct knowledge and experience creating content with measurable results across multiple platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, and WordPress.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize day-to-day tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Demonstrated experience operating with a racial equity lens.
  • Ability to provide own computer equipment.


  • 2+ years working experience within the communications and marketing field.


  • The contract term is for 6 months (start date to be determined during interview process), with an option to increase or extend depending on funding availability, contractor performance, and assignment need.
  • This position will be assigned work approximately 10-15 hours a week, to be completed on the contractor’s own schedule.
  • The expected pay range for this part-time position will be $21-$23 per hour, depending on experience.
