PEPS brings the idea of fostering community to a whole new level.
Nita, PEPS group speaker

PEPS prepares and supports leaders by providing specialized training, a leader handbook, ongoing mentorship and access to a wide range of supplemental resources.

Group Leader Training

Volunteers attend one 4-hour training session. Training explains the structure of a PEPS meeting and provides practice with active listening, group dynamics, planning and facilitating topic discussions. Our training is designed to provide new skills and make leaders feel well prepared to lead a group, whether you are an experience facilitator or have never done anything like this before. Trainings are lead by PEPS' Program Director or Volunteer Manager, both very experienced group leaders.

Leader training is also a wonderful way to learn more about leading a PEPS group if you'd like more information before you commit.

Upcoming Training Dates

Trainings are held at the Good Shepherd Center in Wallingford.

  • Saturday, May 5, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
  • Thursday, June 7, 5:30 - 9:30 pm
  • Saturday, July 14, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Please RSVP to Cate Palmer to sign up for a training. Volunteers need only attend one. Prospective leaders are welcome to attend trainings as a way to learn more before committing to lead a group.

Leader Manual

Each leader receives a handbook that provides detailed information to help plan meetings, guide discussion and support group members.

Support and Mentorship

PEPS staff will be available throughout your group to answer questions, provide suggestions, and help you navigate sensitive situations. We can also connect you with an experienced leader mentor.

Advanced Facilitation Trainings

Advanced facilitation trainings are available to group leaders four times a year. Availability and dates for these trainings will be provided at the Group Leader Training.
