2011 Parent Talk Lecture Series

Parent Talk Lecture Series

The PEPS Parent Talk Lecture Series was developed so that parents can continue to learn and share with others beyond their initial PEPS experience.  Parent Talk Lectures typically fill, so pre-registration is required. While we offer our lectures free to parents, we hope you'll consider making a suggested $10 donation to help PEPS continue to offer these events in the future.

Please note that PEPS hopes to deliver informative content free of disruptions at our lectures. Babes in arms (under 6 months) are welcome, but we ask that crawlers and crooners stay home with a caregiver. We appreciate your understanding!

Dr. Karp's discovery of the "Calming Reflex" has given parents a simple method of soothing even the fussiest babies in minutes and help any baby sleep an extra 1-3 hours a night. Dr. Karp also addresses how parents can communicate with children from 8 months to 5 years in a way that can prevent 50-90% of tantrums by boosting a toddler's patience and cooperation in just days!
Even the most loving moms and dads sometimes feel pushed to the breaking point by their infant's persistent cries. Coming to the rescue, however, Dr. Karp places in the hands of parents, grandparents, and all childcare givers the tools they need to be able to make 95% of babies calm, happy and well rested!

Like so many parents, Dr. Wendy Sue Swanson struggles with work-life-balance and her choice to work while raising her two young boys. The author of the Seattle Mama Doc blog will talk about the challenges and the ways to ways to navigate the complexities of the endless tug-o-war.

Dr. Wendy Sue Swanson is a practicing pediatrician, blogger, writer, and mother to two young boys. She maintains a busy pediatric practice at The Everett Clinic in Mill Creek and writes the Seattle Mama Doc blog for Seattle Children’s, the first pediatrician-authored blog for a major Children's hospital. Dr. Swanson is an official spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics and executive member of the AAP Council on Communications. She sits on the board of advisors for both Parents Magazine and The Mayo Clinic Center for Social Media.

Via her blog, she shares things she has learned in med school and in practice, but also things she learns at home while raising her boys. She interprets research and hopes to dispel myth. Like so many parents, she struggles with work-life-balance and her choice to work while raising her children. Seattle Mama Doc caters to one principle: parents just want to do what is right. The desperate love we have for our children can shock us into good and sometimes bad decisions. Dr. Swanson believes parents search for and sincerely desire simple answers. She From dog food, to Tylenol, to getting a baby to sleep, she provides a voice for the struggle so many of us feel when stuck in a moment of indecision.
