ResourcesWhat matters most in early childhood educationYoung children work hard at play. Play has been shown to lay down the foundational architecture of the brain that is essential to learning language, to becoming a good reader and a proficient mathematician, to having a rich vocabulary and to developing a love of learning. A child's play is serious work! Cheap dates with a toddlerThis summer, you and your youngster(s) may have taken advantage of outdoor fun. With winter coming, are you feeling desperate for new places to go and things to do?
Preparing a letter of instruction should something happen to youYou have your will in place, have named a guardian for your children and finally purchased that life insurance policy. Now consider writing a letter that will be truly helpful to your loved ones.
Parents over 40: What's similar to younger parents and what's different? Many parents are having their first child after age forty. A variety of very personal reasons can lead to delaying parenthood, including postponing having a child due to career goals or difficulties becoming pregnant. There is also speculation that some families have delayed parenthood due to the recession.
Solve problems with musicAs the music enrichment specialist for local day care providers, I drop in once a week or twice a month for a music and movement ‘session’ with groups of toddlers three months to five years old. Recently one of the teachers asked if I could address the issue of helping 3 year old kids learn to wash their hands, due to the flu season.
