This workshop will provide families and educators with a framework for anti-bias education and practical tips on how to respond to children’s comments and questions about differences, how social identity develops in young children and beyond, and how to have courageous conversations about potentially challenging topics.

This workshop will be led by Debbie LeeKeenan.

Note: Additional parking is also available in Amara’s back driveway off of Juneau Street. Driving South on MLK, turn right on Orcas, left on 33rd St, and then left onto Juneau, and the driveway will be ahead on the right.

Debbie LeeKeenan
Debbie LeeKeenan is an early childhood consultant, lecturer, and author. She was director of the Eliot-Pearson Children’s School at Tufts University from 1996 to 2013. In addition to being a faculty member in the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Development at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, she was a member of the early childhood faculty at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Her publications include co-author of Leading Anti-Bias Early Childhood Programs: A Guide for Change with Louise Derman-Sparks and John Nimmo, and contributing author to Proactive Parenting: Guiding Your Child from Two to Six. PEPS offers events so that parents and expecting parents can learn from experts on parenting topics in a comfortable environment. Babes-in-arms under 3 months are welcome at this workshop. We cannot accommodate children over 3 months.

Pre-registration is required, as space is limited. Registration fee is $10 for 1 adult. PEPS works with various partners in the community to sponsor PEPS Events and strives to keep the cost very low.
